Fr. Daniel J. Mahoney – Diocese of Harrisburg

Fr. Daniel Joseph Mahoney - Diocese of Harrisburg

Fr. Daniel J. Mahoney

Ordained: 1952

Retired: 2002

Died: 2007

Assigned as follows:
  • 1952-1954        St. Patrick (York, PA)
  • 1954-1956        St. Edward (Shamokin, PA)
  • 1956-1961        St. Joan of Arc (Hershey, PA)
  • 1961-1964        St. Joseph (Shamokin, PA)
  • 1964-1968        Immaculate Conception BVM (Fairfield, PA)
  • 1968-2002        Holy Name of Jesus (Harrisburg, PA)
Summary of Allegations against Fr. Daniel Mahoney:

Two different women approached the Diocese of Harrisburg in 2002 and 2016, respectively, to report that that their brothers were sexually abused by Fr. Daniel Mahoney as children.

In the 2002 report, the woman informed Diocese of Harrisburg officials that Mahoney abused her brother between 1966 and 1968 at Immaculate Conception in Fairfield. The grand jury report does not include additional details about the boy's age or the context of the abuse.

In the 2016 report, the woman alleged that her brother was often removed from class at the Holy Name school (where Mahoney was assigned for nearly 35 years), and brought to the rectory by Mahoney for sexual contact. Again, the report provides no details about the boy's age, years, or context of the abuse beyond the trip(s) to the rectory.

Notably, the Diocese of Harrisburg's August 2018 list of accused priests indicates that Mahoney was only the subject of one allegation and that it came after his death.  Mahoney died in 2007, five years after the first report of abuse at Immaculate Conception BVM.

Horowitz Law is a law firm representing victims of sexual abuse in the Diocese of Harrisburg and throughout Pennsylvania.  The Diocese of Harrisburg filed for federal bankruptcy protection in February 2020. Anyone sexually abused by a priest or employee of the Diocese of Harrisburg may be entitled to file a claim against the Diocese in these bankruptcy proceedings, but very strict filing deadlines apply.  Most victims of abuse in the Diocese of Harrisburg will never be able to take action against the Diocese of Harrisburg if they miss this bankruptcy filing deadline, so it is important that you contact us immediately to discuss your potential case.
