Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. James Farry:

Fr. James Farry was ordained a priest in 1946, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Scranton. He suffered a brain aneurysm in 1953 that made it impossible for him to carry out full time priestly duties for a long time. During his recovery and the years that followed, he was assigned to St. Michael’s School for Boys, where he was one of many clergy on staff.

According to media reports, in 1960, Bishop Jerome Hannon wrote to Farry that Farry’s “relations with the guests of St. Michael’s had made it intolerable for him to continue to live there.”  He was moved to Cure of Ars Hospice. It is unclear from the assignment history provided by the Diocese of Scranton how long Farry resided at Cure of Ars or if he performed any priestly duties while living there.

In 2006, the Diocese of Scranton received a complaint from a former resident of St. Michael’s that he was abused by Farry from 1953-1954.

In 2018, he was first named publicly as accused in the PA Grand Jury Report. Farry’s name appeared on the list of credibly accused priests published by the Diocese of Scranton in August 2018.

He died in 1990.
