Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Peter Talocci:
Father Peter Talocci was ordained a priest in 1986 and served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career. According to media reports, in March 2011, he was one of 21 priests suspended following the release of the Philadelphia 2011 Grand Jury Report. Archbishop Justin Cardinal Rigali had previously stated that not a single priest with an allegation of sexual misconduct against him was in ministry only weeks prior. He was forced to admit that, after reviewing priest files, there were 21, including Talocci.
The exact details of the allegation(s) against Talocci have never been made public, including where the misconduct is alleged to have occurred.
In December 2013, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia review board determined it could not substantiate the allegations against Talocci, but did recommend that he be permanently removed from ministry for violating "the standards of ministerial behavior."
No additional information about those violations was provided to the public, except for a general statement that priests removed for that reason generally had "boundary issues with children." According to media reports, "Church officials have declined to release details on specific accusations but say boundary issues can include inappropriate talk or contact, sharing alcohol or pornography with minors or other conduct that may be construed as "grooming" a victim."
The review board's recommendation creates more questions than it answers, but in the end, if their decision has made children safer, it is the right one. However, that does not help anyone who may have been a victim of Talocci's misconduct.
Talocci is still alive and resides in New York City. He works as for a non-profit job training and development program and also as a security guard. He is approximately 57 years old.
