Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Michael Cashman:

Father Michael Cashman was ordained a priest in 1975 and served in the Diocese of Metuchen. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career. According to media reports, in 2002, allegations were made that had sexually abused a pair of siblings and their mother in 1978. Cashman was a priest serving at a parish in Old Bridge, New Jersey at the time. Even though Cashman denied the allegations, he took a voluntary leave of absence and never returned to the parish.

In 2009, during an internal church trial, Cashman was found guilty of 1 count of abuse between 1980-1983 and permanently removed from public ministry.  In 2014, the Diocese of Metuchen announced that the Vatican had laicized Cashman following a church trial of the early allegations.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office investigated accusations against Cashman in 2002 but closed the case a year later without filing charges, likely due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

Cashman’s name now appears on the Diocese of Metuchen’s list of priests credibly accused of sexual misconduct.

Cashman is alive and believed to be residing in the Woodbridge, New Jersey, area.  He is in his late 60s.
