Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Charles P McColgan:

Father Charles P McColgan was accused of fondling a young victim in a Philadelphia bathhouse in 1974. According to the victim, McColgan was introduced to the boy by Father John P. Kelly, another priest included on the Diocese of Camden’s list of priests credibly accused of child sex abuse.

The victim did not report the abuse when it happened because he did not understand it was wrong until 1993. The victim’s allegations were part of a large civil suit filed against the Diocese of Camden in 1994, but it was dismissed because it was determined to be outside the statute of limitations.

McColgan’s name appears on the Diocese of Camden’s February 2019 list of credibly accused priests. According to Bishop Sullivan, the list, “includes those who admitted to the abuse, those who were found guilty after a trial in the church courts or the civil courts, and others against whom the evidence was so overwhelming as to be virtually unquestionable.”

McColgan died in 1993.
