Fr. John Broderick – Diocese of Scranton

Father John Broderick

Diocese of Scranton (Diocese of Syracuse)

Ordained: 1989

Removed: 2018

Assigned as follows:

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father John Broderick:

Father John Broderick was not a Diocese of Scranton priest. He was ordained in the Diocese of Syracuse in 1989. According to media reports, in 2008, he was arrested in Nicolville, New York (part of the Diocese of Albany) and charged with abuse of four children from one family in 2007. Broderick spent one weekend a month with the family, who lived in rural western Montgomery County, from December 2006 to May 2007.

Broderick conducted traditional Catholic rituals and said traditional Catholic Masses with the family and several other families with similar values despite not being assigned to the Diocese he was ministering in.

Broderick's privileges were removed in 2008 for "incidents unrelated to sexual abuse," according to the Diocese of Syracuse.

In February 2009, Broderick was found guilty of a misdemeanor charge but acquitted on two felony counts of sexual conduct against a child. Then, in April 2009, a judge dismissed all charges against Broderick, who filed a lawsuit against his accusers, which was dismissed in 2010.

In 2018, Broderick was included in the Diocese of Scranton's list of credibly accused priests. He was permanently removed from ministry.

Broderick's current whereabouts are unknown.
