Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Laserian Nwoga:
Father Laserian Nwoga was accused of fondling a 17-year-old girl in a rectory in 2001, which resulted in a civil suit being filed against him. According to media reports, the alleged touching included rubbing the victim’s shoulders, kissing her cheek, slipping his hands under her shirt, and touching her below her breasts. In response, the Diocese of Camden investigated and said the touching, while inappropriate, was not sexual abuse.
The Diocese of Camden transferred the Nwoga to a chaplain’s post at Underwood Hospital in Woodbury, rather than punishing the priest for his actions.
His name does not appear on the Diocese of Camden’s February 2019 list of credibly accused priests.
In 2005, Nwoga was an active priest in the Diocese of Camden. In 2007, he was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base, Japan. As of August 2018, Nwoga was a Chaplain at the U.S. Air Force base in Biloxi, Mississippi.
