Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Douglas Hermansen:

Fr. Douglas Hermansen was ordained a priest in 1979 and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Trenton. According to media reports, in February 2019, he was named publicly on the Diocese of Trenton list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse. It noted that he had one alleged victim and that he was removed from ministry. In June 2020, Hermansen was accused in a lawsuit of the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old altar boy, in 1975, prior to his ordination. The suit claims Hermansen anally penetrated the boy over 100 times.

According to a list maintained by Bishop Accountability.org, in August 2020, Hermansen was accused in a lawsuit of the repeated sexual abuse of an altar boy on at least fifty occasions from 1979 to 1983, when the boy was aged 13-17. At the time of the alleged abuse, Hermansen was assigned to St. Paul’s Church in Princeton, New Jersey. Hermansen reportedly performed oral sex on the child and forced the child to perform on him as well. He also sodomized the boy on multiple occasions.

The claim was settled in 2020.
