Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Robert J Parenti:

In 1998, Bp. John M. Smith read aloud a letter informing the entire congregation of St. Denis Roman Catholic Church of a sexual abuse allegation made against Fr. Robert J Parenti during his assignment to St. Veronica, where he lived while working at the Diocese of Trenton chancery.

According to media reports, the Diocese of Trenton chose their language very carefully, not wanting to reveal what occurred, where it took place, or who was involved. The only confirmed fact the bishop parlayed to his flock was that the abuse happened 25 years before the allegation and involved a minor not affiliated with the church.

Parenti’s name appears on the Diocese of Trenton’s February 2019 list of credibly accused priests. While the Diocese of Trenton indicated that Parenti was the subject of “multiple” credible allegations of abuse, it did not release any information about the allegations, such as Parenti’s assignments at the time of the abuse and the age/gender of the victims.

Parenti is still alive and believed to be residing in the Wall Township area. His current status with the Diocese of Trenton, if any, is not known.
