Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Dennis Cocozza:
Father Dennis Cocozza was ordained a priest in 1975. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career, and worked in the Archdiocese of Newark. According to media reports, in April 2002, Archdiocese of Newark parishioners learned that Father Cocozza was being replaced as pastor at Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park. There was no information given to parishioners other than that the priest was taking a sabbatical. Later, they learned that he was placed on leave due to accusations of sexual improprieties involving a minor.
Father Cocozza’s name is included on the Archdiocese of Newark’s February 2019 list of credibly accused priests. According to the list, he is the subject of one allegation of abuse. The Archdiocese did not release any information about the allegation, such as Father Cocozza’s assignment at the time of abuse, so it is unclear if it is the same allegation as the one made in 2002.
Father Cocozza died on February 16th, 2017.
