Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Albert H. Cason:

In 1985, Father Albert H. Cason was removed from ministry within the Diocese of Rochester due to sexual misconduct with at least 6 altar boys. Multiple victims made claims of misconduct against Cason and though police investigated, Cason was never criminally charged for abusing the boys.

However, the Diocese of Rochester investigated the complaints against Cason, who was in charge of the altar boys at the church, and the priest admitted to the sexual misconduct.

The victims claimed Cason sexually abused them in the mid- and late 1970s and the abuse ranged from fondling the boys and allowing them to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana to forcibly raping and sodomizing them. The abuse is said to have occurred on overnight camping trips and at a drive-in movie.

Cason was sent for treatment, and he was never allowed to return to ministry.

In 2002, eight plaintiffs filed lawsuits against the Diocese of Rochester and the bishop, however, the cases were dismissed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

In 2020, a civil lawsuit was filed against the Diocese of Rochester under the New York Child Victims Act, which temporarily suspends the statute of limitations in sexual abuse cases.  The lawsuit alleges that Cason sexually abused a boy beginning around the time the child was an 11-year old altar boy at St. John the Evangelist.

Cason died in 1996, according to the Diocese of Rochester.
