Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Joseph Coyne:

Father Joseph Coyne’s name first appeared on the Archdiocese of Washington’s list of credibly accused priests published in October 2018.  It released almost no information on the allegations against each priest, including age/gender of the victims, or the priest’s assignment at the time of the alleged abuse.

According to media reports, in November 1992, an allegation that Father Joseph Coyne sexually abused a young girl in 1962 was reported to the Archdiocese of Washington. The church investigated the allegation. It is not clear if the Archdiocese of Washington reported it to the police. No arrest was made and Coyne remained in ministry.

In 1994, Father Coyne retired in good standing with the church.  He was finally removed from ministry in 1995 for reasons that have not been made public. Coyne died in 1999.
