Summary of Abuse Allegations against Deacon Maxwell “Ron” Pelton:
According to media reports, Deacon Maxwell “Ron” Pelton served at Immaculate Conception in Cottonwood, Arizona, from November 1991 until his retirement in October 2000. In 2009, Deacon Pelton was arrested and charged with several criminal counts relating to the sexual abuse of a minor child. The charges included sexual conduct with a minor, luring a minor for sexual exploitation, furnishing harmful materials to a minor, child molestation and indecent exposure. The Diocese of Phoenix immediately revoked Deacon Pelton’s faculties pending the outcome of the legal process and a review by the Diocesan Review Board. Later in 2010, a civil claim was filed against him.
Deacon Pelton is listed on the Diocese of Phoenix’s “List of priests and deacons who have been laicized and/or removed from ministry due to sexual misconduct with a minor.”
He was awaiting final criminal charges when he died of natural causes in police custody in 2010.
