Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Gary Kennedy:
Fr. Gary Kennedy was ordained a priest in 1968, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Pueblo. According to media reports, in October 2019, the Colorado Attorney General released a detailed report of a special investigation into the handling of child sexual abuse allegations by Colorado’s three Catholic dioceses. For the first time, Fr. Gary Kennedy was publicly identified as a priest with a documented report of sexual abuse.
According to the documents reviewed by the investigators, Kennedy was accused of abusing a 13-year- old altar boy over the course of several years starting in 1967. At the time, Kennedy was assigned to St. Mary in Montrose.
Kennedy retired voluntarily in 2011 and was assisting with masses at St. Joseph in Pueblo as recently as September 2019. His faculties have been suspended pending the diocese’s internal investigation.
