Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Richard  Judd:

Father Richard Judd was ordained as a member of the Servants of the Holy Paraclete and worked for several years in New Mexico and Arizona. He also worked at St. Pius X, St. Cyril of Alexandria and Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona in the 1970s. In 1975, Father Judd moved to the Diocese of Buffalo and continued to work there until his death in 1988.

According to media reports, in 2002, a man told a news outlet that Father Judd abused him when he was an elementary school student at St. Teresa’s in South Buffalo in the summer of 1975.

“There were several people, my age, in my class (at St. Teresa’s Elementary School), who were molested by (Judd),” the man said. “That’s the truth. But they will not speak out about it. They don’t want to rehash it. They don’t want the stigma that’s attached to it.”

In March 2003, he was included on the Diocese of Tucson’s list of clergy accused of child sexual abuse. In March 2018, he was included in the Diocese of Buffalo’s list of priests who “were removed from ministry, were retired, or left ministry after allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.” No information regarding the allegations was disclosed, however, the list includes deceased priests only if they have more than one allegation.

In August 2019, Father Judd was accused in multiple lawsuits filed under the NY Child Victims Act. One case alleges sexually abuse of a 14-year-old child who attended Nativity of the of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to media reports, another suit alleges that he got three teen boys drunk and arranged for them to have sex with an older girl in the rectory of St. Teresa’s in Niagara Falls and participated in the act. The third case accuses him, along with Father Basil Ormsby, of sexually abusing a 13-year-old at St. Teresa’s in South Buffalo in the mid-1970s.

In 2020, Father Judd was named in another lawsuit against the Diocese of Buffalo. He was accused of sexually abusing a minor. The details of the sexual abuse allegations, including when and where the alleged abuse occurred, or the victim’s age/gender, are unknown.
