Summary of Abuse Allegations against Brother John Spalding:

Brother John Spalding was a member of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart who served in the Diocese of Metuchen. He taught history and social studies at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, NJ. According to media reports, he was accused of endangering the welfare of a child and possession and viewing of pornographic material, primarily child pornography. In February 2016, he "voluntarily" surrendered after being charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possessing and viewing child pornography on his computer. Police received a tip from an unidentified official, and after an investigation and a search of his computer, he was charged with downloading and viewing the material on his computer, which he maintained at St. Joseph's High School.

Brother Spalding pleaded not guilty. He was released on $75,000 bail, and returned to his home in Rhode Island. He was immediately removed from active ministry and received counseling at a residential treatment facility. He is currently serving in the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Rhode Island retirement community.
