Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Anthony Paone:
Father Anthony Paone was ordained a Jesuit priest of the New York Province in 1938 and served in the Archdiocese of Newark. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career as an educator. He served at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City from 1939 to 1942, and then went on to teach in Catholic schools in New York. Father Paone wrote two well known Christian books on daily reflections on the spiritual life; “My Daily Bread” and “My Daily Life”. He died in December 1990.
According to media reports, in 2002, he was accused of sexual abusing a minor in approximately 1953 while Fr. Paone worked at Brooklyn Preparatory School in Brooklyn, New York. The accusation was determined to be credible after investigation. Fr. Paone is named on the Northeast Province Jesuits’ 2019 list, “USA Northeast Province Jesuits with Credible Allegations of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.”
