Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Gervase White:

Father Gervase White was a World War II veteran. He entered the Franciscan Order in 1948, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1954. He dedicated his career to education. He died in 2002. According to media reports, in April 2019, St. Bonaventure University and Archbishop Walsh Academy officials released a statement saying that they were “in the dark” as much as the public regarding sexual abuse allegations made against two deceased friars. Father White was one of the accused priests named, who once held a high-level position in their institutions.

St. Bonaventure officials said their records do not show any allegation made against Father White during his 47 years at the university. Father White’s name prominently hangs high above heads at Bob Lanier Court on the Reilly Center’s video board, installed in the fall of 2016 in a tribute to him and two others. His was among more than 20 accused priests whose names had never been released by the Diocese of Buffalo.
