Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Michael Barber:

Father Michael Barber was ordained as a Jesuit priest in 1975 and served in the Archdiocese of Newark. He served in multiple parishes throughout his career. According to media reports, in December 2018, it was disclosed by the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus, that in 1994, Father Barber admitted to sexually abusing a minor in Strathmere, NJ. He pleaded guilty to a charge of “harassment by offensive touching.” He was removed from ministry, and relocated to the Colombiere Jesuit Community in Baltimore.

In December 2018, Father Barber’s name appeared on the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus list of Jesuits with credible allegations of sexual abuse of minors since 1950. In February 2019, his name also appeared publicly on the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.

According to the Jesuits, he is living in a restricted environment on a safety plan where his travel and use of technology is monitored.
