Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Roy Ronald:
According to media reports, in March 2018, the Diocese of Buffalo released an updated list of clergy credibly accused of child sex abuse. One name that appeared on the list for the first time was Father Roy Ronald. The list did not contain any specific information about the allegations or any of Father Ronald’s previous assignments.
According to the Diocese, Father Ronald retired in 1998 and died in 2013. It was also specified that a deceased priest would end up on the Diocese list if there was more than one allegation against him that was found credible.
In August 2019, Father Ronald was named in a lawsuit was filed under the Child Victims Act alleging “unpermitted sexual conduct” from 1982 until 1986, beginning when the victim was 11-years-old. The plaintiff was involved in several youth programs at St. Mary’s in Belmont where Father Ronald had also spent his time.
