Summary of Abuse Allegations Against Father Gregory Yacyshyn:

Father Gregory Yacyshyn assisted in parishes in Greenlawn and Bay Shore before being named pastor of a Mastic Beach parish in 2007. According to media reports, in December 2015, he was named in a lawsuit alleging that he sexually abused an 8-year-old girl in 2003, around the time of the girl’s first communion. He was serving at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Greenlawn.

The victim’s family reported the alleged abuse to the Diocese of Rockville Centre and the police. Father Yacyshyn denied the allegations. Church officials did not inform the parish or public and kept him in ministry. They said the allegations were unsubstantiated and called the claim an “unfortunate publicity stunt.”

His accuser said, “As a child, I was sexually abused by Father Greg. With counseling and support of my family, I now know I did nothing wrong.”

According to media reports, in April 2016, another lawsuit was filed by a 20-year-old man who accusing Father Yacyshyn of child sexual abuse from 2001 to 2003 when he was 5 to 7 years old. The alleged abuse occurred while the priest was working at St. Francis of Assisi in Greenlawn. Once again, Father Yachshyn denied the allegations and remains in ministry.
