Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Giacomo Ghisalberti:

Fr. Giacomo Ghisalberti was ordained a priest in 1970, who served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Greensburg. According to media reports, in Father Giacomo Ghisalberti was ordained a priest in 1970 in the Diocese of Greensburg and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Raleigh. Ghisalberti also attended Campbell University School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1981. According to media reports, he was named publicly on the Diocese’s list of credibly accused clergy in October 2018. The alleged abuse occurred in 1977 and was reported to the Diocese in 2004. No further information has been given about the location of the abuse or the number of allegations against him. 

Ghisalberti died on October 19, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 virus. According to his obituary, he was assigned to three parishes in the Diocese of Greensburg between 1970 and 1975, when he moved to North Carolina. It also mentions that Ghisalberti married a woman around 1988, so he, presumably, left the priesthood sometime before that to marry.

However, according to the Diocese of Raleigh’s original list of credibly accused priests, Ghisalberti may have remained in ministry until suspension as recently as 2004. News clippings also mention him celebrating a funeral mass as the officiant (priest) in the 1990s.

Neither the Diocese of Raleigh nor the Diocese of Greensburg have offered up a complete assignment history or any explanation regarding Ghisalberti’s departure from the priesthood. The assignment history listed above was compiled from his obituary and news archives about his career.

He is not listed on the Diocese of Greensburg’s list of credibly accused priests.
