  • 1960-1996: Special assignments in Ohio, Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, North and South Carolina, and New Orleans

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father John Powers:

Father John Powers was ordained a priest of the Dominican Order in 1952, and served in the Diocese of Raleigh. According to media reports, in he was named publicly when his named was included on the list of priests credibly accused of child sexual abuse published by the Dominican Order.  According to its disclosure, Father Powers became a part of the Province of St. Martin de Porres when it was formed in 1979. The allegation was reported to the Order in 2009. 

Father Powers' name also appeared on the Diocese of Raleigh's list in October 2018, indicating that he was accused of abuse in 2002. The alleged abuse occurred in 1966 while the priest was assigned in the Diocese of Raleigh. Father Powers' name also appears on the Diocese of Providence's list in July 2019, and Fall River's list in January 2021. 

No additional information has been released, such as the age/gender of his victims or the nature of the abuse, by any of the three Church entities.

Father Powers died on October 19th, 2010.
