Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Raymond Schulte:

Father Raymond Schulte was ordained a priest in 1979 and served in many dioceses throughout his career such as Minnesota, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Rome, and in the Diocese of Raleigh. According to media reports, in September 2002, during the St. John’s Abbey Abuse Disclosure Project, a victim said Father Schulte sexually abused him in October 1988. Schulte was also accused of knowing about the sexual abuse of other children. Father Schulte was under restrictions at the Abbey but was granted leave on multiple occasions to travel.

In November 2006, Father Schulte admitted to possessing graphic videos of child pornography and was sentenced 7 years and 3 months in federal prison.

In May 2010, two North Carolina brothers filed a civil suit against Father Schulte claiming they were abused by the priest when he served in the Raleigh area. One of the brothers said after he was abused in North Carolina, Schulte later recruited him to come to St. John’s in Minnesota where the abuse continued. That suit settled in 2011.

In April 2011, another lawsuit was filed by a victim who alleged Father Schulte abused him when he was representing St. John’s Abbey in Humacao, Puerto Rico.

Schulte’s name is listed on three official lists of clergy members who have been accused of sexual abuse of a minor: St. John’s Abbey, Diocese of St. Cloud and Diocese of Raleigh. He is said to be living a restricted lifestyle as a monk at St. John’s in Collegeville.
