Father Andrew William Paul Krafcik
Diocese of Richmond
Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Andrew William Paul Krafcik:
In 1984, Fr. Andrew William Paul Krafcik requested to be transferred to the Diocese of Arlington after 25 years in the Diocese of Richmond. According to media reports, that same year he was convicted of a misdemeanor charge that involved kissing a 12-year-old girl at a swimming pool. He pleaded guilty, but reportedly never believed he did anything wrong. He was sentenced to counseling instead of jail time. He served in “limited ministry” from 1985 until he retired in 1996.
In 2002, Bishop Loverde requested Krafcik’s laicization, though it is not clear why this decision suddenly came six years after Krafcik’s voluntary retirement. The Vatican formally removed him from the priesthood in 2004. In 2019, Father Krafcik’s name appeared publicly on the Dioceses of Arlington’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.
