Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Ed Smith :

Father Ed Smith, a member of Glenmary Home Mission Society, worked in multiple parishes throughout his career including in Bogota, Colombia; North Carolina; Ohio; Virginia and Georgia. According to media reports, in October 2019, his name appeared publicly on the Glenmary Home Missioners’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. 

In December 2019, Father Smith’s name also appeared publicly on the Glenmary Home Missioners’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. The Diocese of Charlotte noted that in December 2014, a report was received that he sexually abused a boy in the 1960s while on Boy Scout camping trips. The Diocese also said that in late 2019, the Glenmary Home Missioners reported that an allegation of child sexual abuse  during the 1960s was received in 1993, at Buck Creek, which had a summer youth camp. Another allegation of child sexual abuse in 1963 when Father Smith was pastor of St. Elizabeth parish in Boone, NC was reported in 2001.
