Father Edward Stapleton, an Edmundite priest, served in parishes in Florida, Alabama, Connecticut, and in the Diocese of Burlington in Vermont. According to media reports, in 2004, he was accused of child sexual abuse in Vermont in 1974. He died in 1983.

In August 2019, his name appeared publicly on the Edmundite order’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.
