Father Paul Plouffe worked at various parishes in the Diocese of Burlington in Vermont. Plouffe was a member of the Society of Saint Edmund for 64 years and an ordained priest for 59 years. He died in 2004. According to media reports, in 2006, an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor that occurred in 1946 in Vermont was received.

In September 2019, his name appeared on the Edmundite order's list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.
