Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father William Kuder:

Father William Kuder was ordained a priest in 1936, and served in multiple parishes in the Diocese of Charlotte. According to media reports, in 1995, a man reported to the Diocese that Father William Kuder sexually abused him at St. Joan of Arc over the course of four years. The alleged abuse began when the man was 9-years-old in 1952, when St. Joan of Arc was part of the Diocese of Raleigh. The man also claimed that after the abuse, Kuder would drive him to rectories 20 and 50 miles away to confess his ‘sin’ of sex with a priest. Kuder would also threaten the boy with eternal damnation if he broke the seal of confession.

After coming forward, the victim said that he had heard from 10 more victims of Kuder, according to media reports. His two brothers also allege they too were abused by Kuder when they were ages 9-13.

William Kuder died in 1960 as a priest in good standing. His name appears on the Raleigh Diocese’s list of credibly accused priests as of October 2018.
