Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Patrick Sexton:

According to media reports, in 1983, a complaint was made against Fr. Patrick Sexton, and he was sent for counseling. In 1990, Sexton was placed on leave but worked as a part-time parochial school teacher until 2000.

In 2001, a man filed a civil suit alleging that Sexton sexually abused him as a minor in the early 1980s. By June 2002, he was accused of child sexual abuse by three survivors. Sexton denied the accusations.

In October 2003, Sexton was one of 24 priests named in a civil lawsuit filed by 27 plaintiffs. One plaintiff alleged that he was sexually abused by Sexton as a boy from 1982 to 1985 when the priest served at St. Cecilia’s in Brooklyn, New York.

Sexton was removed from ministry in 2004 and laicized in 2006. In February 2019, his name appeared publicly on the Diocese of Brooklyn’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. His current whereabouts are unknown.
