Father Richard Thompson served as a priest in the Diocese of Burlington in Vermont for approximately 16 years. According to media reports, Thompson was arrested in 1984 by state police during a raid at rest stops curtailing sexual activity. He was charged with lewd and lascivious acts. He was suspended from duties in August 1984. He died in 2006. According to media reports, in August 2019, his name appeared publicly on the Diocese of Burlington’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.
