Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father William Miller:
Father William Miller was a Redemptorist priest who was stationed at the Redemptorist house in New Orleans as early as 1924. According to media reports, in November 2018, his name appeared publicly on the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors. It noted an allegation of abuse in the late 1940s was received in 1946.
The Archdiocese said it was notified of the allegation, but “the investigation and final disposition of the allegation was the responsibility of the religious order.” It said the Redemptorist Order removed him from New Orleans and “his faculties were removed in 1946 amidst the allegation. Law enforcement was involved in an investigation at that time.” No further information including age/gender of the victim was disclosed. The Redemptorists eventually returned him to New Orleans where he served as assistant pastor at St. Alphonsus until 1961.
Father Miller died in 1972 at age 76.
