Fr. Anthony Esposito – Archdiocese of New Orleans

Fr. Anthony Esposito

Archdiocese of New Orleans

Ordained: 1959

Assigned as Follows:

  • Hope Haven (Marrero, LA)

Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Anthony Esposito:

Father Anthony Esposito is a religious order priest who served under the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Father Esposito was first named publicly as accused of sexual misconduct on the New Orleans archdiocese's list on November 2nd, 2018. According to the list, the allegation against Esposito was received in 2006 and occurred in the 1950's and 1960's. No other specific information has been released about the number of victims who have come forward or the type of abuse the allegation refers to.

During his time with the diocese, he reportedly worked at Hope Haven in Marrero. This was a church-run orphanage in Louisiana that opened in 1925 that has been the subject to many sexual abuse allegations. Eight Roman Catholic priests whom the Archdiocese of New Orleans identified in early November of 2018 as being credibly accused of sexually abusing children had been assigned to Hope Haven. All eight were members of the Salesians of Don Bosco order.

In April of 2020, the Archdiocese of New Orleans filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of its bankruptcy, the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be reviewing and paying claims for anyone sexually abused by diocesan priests and lay employees. This will likely include claims filed on behalf of anyone whose case may be beyond the statute of limitations.

None of the eight accused Salesian priests have officially been removed from ministry.

Anthony Esposito has not been confirmed to be alive or dead.
