Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Gerald Hindman:
Father Gerald Hindman was originally ordained as a priest in the Order of St. Benedict, but spent most of his career working under the Archdiocese of New Orleans. According to the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Father Gerald Hindman was alleged to have abused a minor in the early 1960’s. The allegation against Hindman was reported in 2004. The archdiocese did not release any specific information including the nature of the misconduct or the age/gender of the victim who came forward.
Saint Joseph Abbey also released a statement and report on clergy abuse in 2018 and included the same information on the allegation that was made against Gerald Hidman in 2004.
Gerald Hidman died in 1999.
In April of 2020, the Archdiocese of New Orleans filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of its bankruptcy, the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be reviewing and paying claims for anyone sexually abused by diocesan priests and lay employees.
