Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father James McDermott:

On November 11th, 2018, the Diocese of Albany released a list of clergy members who had been publicly accused of sexual abuse or misconduct with a minor. The list did not include any details on the number of victims per clergy member or where the accused priests were assigned to at the time of the alleged abuse.

One name that had never been released prior to this list was McDermott’s. According to the Diocese of Albany, he resigned in 1997 prior to finding any reasonable grounds to remove him.

In 2018, McDermott’s name appeared publicly on the Diocese of Albany’s list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.

McDermott’s whereabouts since resigning from the priesthood is unknown.
