Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Fr. Kenneth Hamilton:
In December of 2018, the Catholic Church officials in New Orleans settled a lawsuit accusing a priest and deacon of sexually abusing a boy at Treme parish in the 1980’s. The priest was identified as Kenneth Hamilton of the Society of Divine Word religious order, and the now-retired deacon was Lloyd Glapion. The original case was filed in 2015 and centered around allegations of abuse at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Kenneth Hamilton and Lloyd Glapion have both denied any wrongdoing.
Neither Lloyd Glapion nor Kenneth Hamilton was on the list published in November of 2018 by Archbishop Gregory Aymond that named 57 clergymen in the New Orleans area who the church says were credibly accused of sexually abusing minors.
In January of 2019, it was reported that Kenneth Hamilton was listed as on staff at St. Columba’s in Oakland, California. When asked for a comment on Hamilton’s employment, a spokesperson for the Diocese of Oakland claimed that it was an outdated entry on the St. Columba website.
In April of 2020, the Archdiocese of New Orleans filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of its bankruptcy, the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be reviewing and paying claims for anyone sexually abused by diocesan priests and lay employees. This will likely include claims filed on behalf of anyone whose case may be beyond the statute of limitations.
