According to media reports, in 2019, a lawsuit was filed alleging that Msgr. Joseph DeSimpliciis sexually abused a minor boy from approximately 1958 to 1962 while he was at St. Joseph Patron in Brooklyn, New York. Fr. Romano Ferraro, an accused priest, was also a priest serving at St. Joseph Patron in Brooklyn at the same time DeSimpliciis was.

Information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims or the nature of the alleged sexual abuse is unknown.

DeSimpliciis retired in 1977 and died in 1978.
