Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Anthony Eremito:

In 1991, Fr. Anthony Eremito was accused of child sexual abuse by another priest, Fr. John Bambrick. According to media reports, Bambrick purportedly told the Archdiocese of New York that Eremito sexually abused him when he was 15 years old in New Jersey in the 1980s. Eremito was assigned to St. Joseph’s Church in Keyport at the time of the alleged abuse.

The Archdiocese of New York told Bambrick there were close to a dozen more accusations but would never elaborate on them. Eremito denied the allegations and brought a defamation claim against Bambrick.

In 1992, Eremito was removed from active assignments but was permitted to return to work in New Jersey from 1997 to 1998. He also worked in Lubbock, Texas, at a children’s hospital from 1998 until 2002, when his faculties were removed.

In 2006, he was working as a grief counselor at a Pennsylvania hospice until he was laicized that year. In April 2019, Eremito’s name appeared on the Archdiocese of New York’s list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors. His current whereabouts are unknown.
