Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father John P Gallant:

Fr. John P Gallant was ordained a priest in 1960. According to media reports, he was sued in 2002 for allegedly sexually abusing a 16-year-old female student at Franciscan High School in Mohegan Lake, New York, from 1980-1983. Gallant claimed he acknowledged having an affair with the young woman but thought she was 18 years old. He is the brother of Fr. Alfred Gallant, who is also an accused abuser.

The Archdiocese of New York removed him from ministry in 2002 and has since been laicized. Gallant is named on the Archdiocese of New York’s 2019 List of Archdiocesan Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor or the Subject of Eligible IRCP Compensation Claims. His current whereabouts and whether he has access to children are unknown.
