Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations against Father Robert Gamel:
Fr. Robert Gamel was ordained a priest in 1990, who served in the Diocese of Fresno. According to media reports, in 2014, he was placed on administrative leave while being put under an investigation for "internet related sex crimes." A few months into the internal investigation, Gamel was reportedly removed and transferred to another location under the Fresno Diocese.
A year later, Robert Gamel was formally charged with possession of child pornography. He plead guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 11 months in jails and 4 years of probation. Less than six months after being released from jail, Gamel was charged again with possession of child pornography with a prior conviction. He was charged with 4 more years in state prison and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
Recently, Gamel has been released from prison as of April 13th, 2019. He remains on paid administrative leave, since the first time he was arrested and currently resides in Tulare County with his family.
