Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Edmund Austin:

Father Edmund Austin was a member of the Franciscan religious order, and served in the Diocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, he was named in a 2008 civil lawsuit alleging child sexual abuse of a young girl. The alleged abuse occurred in the 1970s. The child met Fr. Austin at the Santa Barbara’s Girls Club when she was approximately 6 years old in 1964. She was living in a single parent home, without a father. The priest started grooming her, and then sexually abused her repeatedly for about a year, sometimes in the presence of other Franciscan Friars. The alleged abuse occurred in multiple locations including, private Friars’ homes, the stairwell of the Mission, and his car.

Fr. Austin’s current whereabouts, his status as a priest, and whether he has had access to children from 1976 to the present are unknown.
