Summary of Abuse Allegations against Fr. Joseph Dunne:
Fr. Joseph Dunne was an extern priest visiting from Glasgow, Scotland who briefly worked in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, beginning in 1990. In 2004, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles disclosed that an abuse came forward alleging child sexual abuse by Fr. Dunne in 1993 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Santa Clarita, California. The Archdiocese confirmed in January 2019, that his alleged victim was a 12-year choir girl and that her mother reported the abuse immediately after it happened in January 1993.
According to media reports, Fr. Dunne had reportedly been working without permission since summer 1992 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Newhall. Police did not press charges. The Archdiocese contacted the Diocese of Glasgow, and learned that there were previous allegations against him.
In 2018, Fr. Dunne’s name was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of child sexual abuse.
Dunne is alive and believed to be living in Ireland. In 2023, Dunne pleaded guilty In Ireland to sexually abusing a young women in 1989, but he managed to avoid a jail term as he is is the sole caretaker for his elderly sister.
