Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father John Rodrigues Moniz:

Fr. John Rodrigues Moniz was ordained a Jesuit priest who served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, in 1995, he was convicted of lewd conduct with a four-year-old girl in 1991 and sentenced to three years of probation, as well as ordered to pay the victim’s uninsured medical expenses and psychological treatment. Br. Moniz’s probation ended in 1998. At the time of the abuse, Fr. Moniz lived at Sacred Heart Retirement Center in Los Gatos, CA, a facility the Jesuits used to house troubled priests. The abuse reportedly occurred while he was visiting St. Mary’s parish in Los Gatos.

Br. Moniz later moved to Vianney Renewal Center in Dittmer, MO, a facility run by the Paracletes and known for treating sexual abusive clerics. He died in 2008. Moniz is listed on the Jesuits West Province’s 2018 list of Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
