Summary of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Father Patrick McNamara:

Fr. Patrick McNamara was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1962.  He served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for a period of time while he reportedly studied at UCLA.

According to media reports, in 2003, Fr. McNamara was accused of sexually abusing a child from 1961 to 1965 and has been named in at least one civil lawsuit alleging child sexual abuse.

It is believed that Fr. McNamara left the Jesuit order in 1968 after he earned his Ph.D. in sociology from UCLA. He reportedly took a job as an assistant professor at the University of Texas. In 1970, he accepted a position at the University of New Mexico, where he worked until he retired in 1998. Fr. McNamara was believed to be living in New Mexico before his death in 2001.

McNamara is included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of priests accused of sexual misconduct involving minors. His name also appears on the list of Jesuits from the Western Province credibly accused of sexual abuse.
