Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Thomas Havel:

Father Thomas Havel was ordained a priest in 1963 who served in multiple parishes in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, in 1969, he requested a leave of absence so he could join the Marianist Order. In 1972, the Marianists allowed him to study medicine at Georgetown University.

According to media reports, in 1989, a civil suit alleging child sexual abuse was dismissed due to the statute of limitations. In 2002, a woman reported that Father Havel had sexually abused as a child from 1968 to 1973. The Order settled the claim. At some time between 1980 and 2002, Father Havel was laicized at his own request. As of July 2002, he was believed to be practicing psychiatry in northern California.

He has been named in at least three civil lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse. In July 2013, the Marianists released his personnel files. His name appeared on the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ list of clergy credibly accused of sex abuse of minors.  It is believed he may still be practicing psychiatry and may be living in Mountain View, CA.
