Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Avdon Serratos:

Father Avdon Serratos was an extern priest visiting the Archdiocese of Los Angeles from the Diocese of Colima in Mexico. According to media reports, in August 2003, he was accused of molesting a 15-year-old during a confessional in the bedroom of a family friend’s home in Los Angeles. He was arrested booked on a charge of felony lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor. Prosecutors said the girl told her mother about the abuse as soon as she got home. The alleged abuse included fondling the teenager and repeatedly kissing her during an 80-minute confession.

“It is a violation of the family’s trust and the girl’s trust,” said LAPD Capt. Sharyn Buck.

“What makes it more egregious” is that the incident took place during a confession, she added.

Father Serratos pleaded no contest, and in 2004 was sentenced to one year in jail. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and given five years’ probation. As of 2012, he reportedly had been deported back to Mexico. His current whereabouts are unknown.
