Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father John Santillan Hernandez:
Father John Santillan Hernandez was ordained a priest of the Piarist religious order in 1969, and served in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, he has been named in two civil lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse. One suit claimed the abuse occurred from approximately 1977 to 1981 when he worked at Santa Teresita Church, and the other lawsuit claimed the abuse occurred from approximately 1983 to 1985 when he worked at St. Lucy Catholic Church.
In 1998, Father Santillan Hernandez was accused of sexually abusing an altar server in the 1970s. He was also sued in 1998, but the case was dismissed. As of 1998, he was working as a priest in Bolivia. In 2002, the Los Angeles Police Department investigated another claim of child sexual abuse against him. That same year, he was removed from ministry.
His name was included in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles' list of priests credibly accused of child sexual abuse. It is believed he may have died in approximately 2014.
