Summary of Abuse Allegations against Bishop Alexander Salazar:

Alexander Salazar (aka Father Alex) was elevated to Bishop in 2004. He also served as Vicar for the Office of Ethnic Ministries of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, he was investigated by law enforcement in 2002 for an allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor in the 1990s, when he was a parish priest. The District Attorney did not prosecute citing lack of evidence. Auxiliary Bishop Salazar denied any wrongdoing.

The archdiocese said it only became aware of the allegation in 2005. Following a Vatican investigation, precautionary measures were reportedly imposed on Auxiliary Bishop Salazar ministry.

The alleged ‘misconduct with a minor’ was first made public December 2018, after the Vatican announced Pope Francis had accepted Auxiliary Bishop Salazar’s resignation. after an Archdiocesan oversight board reviewed the case and deemed the allegation credible. The Archdiocese never included his name in any of it’s lists of publicly and credibly accused priests. His current whereabouts are unknown.
