Br. Lawrence O’Brien was a member of the Brothers of the Holy Cross religious order. He primarily worked at homes for troubled youth. According to media reports, in 2003, O’Brien was accused in a civil lawsuit of sexually abusing a child in the 1970s and 80s at Hayward’s Moreau High School in Hayward, California. The details of the abuse, including the information about the age/gender of his alleged victim/victims or the nature of the alleged sexual abuse, are unknown.

In 2019, O’Brien was included on the Diocese of Oakland list of clergy credibly accused of child sexual abuse.
