Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Jose Ugarte:

Father Jose Ugarte was a priest from Spain ordained for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. According to media reports, multiple survivors have come forward alleging he sexually abused them as children in 1983 and in 1993. In the early 1990s, a doctor reported to the archdiocese that Father Ugarte drugged and raped a boy in Ensenada.

In 1994, Cardinal Mahony did not turn Father Ugarte over to police. He instructed him to go back to Spain, not return to the United States without permission of the Archbishop for at least seven years, to find a secular job, and not to celebrate mass in public.

In 2013, his personnel files were released, which publicly revealed the accusations for the first time. In 2017, it is believed Father Ugarte was living in Whittier, CA. His current whereabouts are unknown.
